2017 《Orphan of Asia》Physical Image, Taipei, Taiwan 身體影像 《亞細亞的孤兒》
This video art was inspired by《Orphan of Asia》was written by Zhuoliu Wu. Zhouliu Wu (1900-1976) was a famous journalist and one of Taiwan's leading literary figures, well known for his realistic, politically charged short stories and novels, including The Fig and Formosan Weeping Forsythia.
Born in Japanese-occupied Taiwan, raised in the scholarly traditions of ancient China by his grandfather, but forced into the Japanese educational system, Hu Taiming, the protagonist of Orphan of Asia, ultimately finds himself estranged from all three cultures. Wu's autobiographical novel, completed in 1945, is widely regarded as a classic of modern Asian literature and a groundbreaking expression of the postwar Taiwanese national consciousness. Originally written in Japanese and now translated into English for the first time, Orphan of Asia offers a powerful depiction of the political, cultural, and psychological impact of colonialism.

“Can we really reconstruction the scene with image?” In this video, we are thinking about sight and time difference. In short distance, artist step by step to photography the present of the field. With the photography, we record the two dimension of the field, to reproduce the scene. This is a VAGA Body & Multimedia Experimental Group project. Project theme: "Embodying Places". This project is a nomadic platform of artistic research exploring the possibilities of body as a tool to analyze the social fabric in different contexts. 2016 《Toni Squats》 Performance Art in Zurich, Switzerland 蘇黎世行為藝術演出
2016年瑞士蘇黎世 《Toni Squats》 作品,此作品為團體創作,主要探討居住權與空屋佔領的議題,企圖透過團體行動意識,轉化公共空間至私人化。此作品探討場域的可能性,相較於歐洲至十七世紀開始的空屋佔領,捍衛居住權,亞洲近年土地商品化導致空屋率高於無房可住的人口, 空屋佔領中較為廣泛的討論是土地商品化,與空屋率高於無殼者,土地卻成為商品買賣的詭譎之處。因故在十七世紀於歐洲開始興盛的空屋佔領,在部分國家開始合法化,以荷蘭為例,如屋主一年以上不在,佔屋者就可以合法佔屋使用。在不同國家過去也有許多藝術家佔屋,重新打掃已破舊不堪的空屋再利用。 此作品企圖回應並且透過行動與社會實驗,佔領蘇黎世Toni Area,轉化空間可能性。

n Zurich 2013, there is residence against the tearing down of the squatted factory Binz. Notion of the movement: “We want to and we have to defend and preserve every alternative living space.” Squatting is the action of occupying an abandoned or unoccupied area of land or a building, usually residential – that the squatter does not own, rent or otherwise have lawful permission to use. The scenes selected in the video represents the organic daily activities at home during a 7-day weekly cycle. In this squatting experiment, is Toni transformed from a public institutional space to a private community living space?

2016 「0.142921%」Documentary Performance, Hong Kong 香港紀錄劇場演出
2016年香港實驗劇場作品「0.142921%」,同樣為團體創作,為理解香港當地垃圾問題,進行場域觀察、田野訪談與實地訪查垃圾掩埋場,透過劇場演出形式傳達當代社會物質慾望與用過即丟造成的環境災害問題,透過普羅米修斯神話啟示,再現當代城市寓言。 我們從行動中理解香港因著生活便利與消費型態所苦,為數約為730萬的香港市民,平均一人製造1.6公斤,成為世界上製造最多垃圾的城市。除了抵達當地臨時垃圾收集站訪談清潔員工,並且實地到訪垃圾掩埋場。香港在地理人文上得天獨厚,卻因為高產量的垃圾,而使得政府需招收大量的清潔工(約9700名)進行清掃。高消費之下,也暗藏垃圾處理的高成本。垃圾問題在香港,場域與人民同樣膠著。 創作者近年透過社會實驗,以行動經驗到的場域感和身體感。實踐另一種對於場域、記憶、認同的解構與重新建構。

A group project based on the refuse disposal problem in Hong Kong (2016). The group visited and observed garbage collection facilities and landfill, also interview cleaners. They presented a theater work to express the environmental problem caused by materialism of the contemporary society, which was inspired by the myth of Prometheus to represent the contemporary social parable.

這個作品向詩人夏宇致敬,作品名稱《他知道重複可以讓我幸福》引用自夏宇的詩作 蒙馬特。此舞蹈實驗性影像作品影像透過解構舞者楊柳肢體動作,除了具體化城市個體與他者、身體與場域辯證過程,在不斷重複的肢體運作與疊置香港城市背景聲響,同時反思當代身體與城市的斷裂感與可能性。

This film is a tribute to Taiwanese poetry, Hsia Yn. This experimental dance video deconstructs the dancer Yang Liu’s movement, dialectical of the urban individual and others, and the relationship between body and field. The repeated movement and background sounds reflect the possibility of the body and self-identity. VAGA Body & Multimedia Experimental Group was founded in 2016. 此作品企圖探討高度發展文明城市下的情感異化,透過身體與行動進行場域辯證。此作品對於消費城市的身體觀察與反思,在我當時居住的地點油麻地進行創作。而這段身體在場卻貌似「不在場的漫遊」行走,出發點在於對於高度現代化城市生活所感受的「情感異化」進行討論。身體彷彿只是表徵意義上的載體,人與人的實質情感的交流趨近於無。 「當一個人站在香港街頭,我的意思是一動也不動時,會感到迷失。並不是毫無方向或不清楚方向,就是人來人往的街上,每個人都帶走你一點什麼。太陽在西方,風從北方來,心不在身上。」2016年旅居香港創作筆記。

2016, I had a chance to stay in Hong Kong for three months. As my observation, due to the pressure lifestyle and housing problem, I feel highly emotional alienation in this city. This is my motivation to do this video. “There's one day, a bird with a man was walking in a cage.”

2017 《Island》Experiment Documentary, Taiwan 實驗紀錄影像《岸》
2013-2016年期間,因緣際會,我參與紀錄許多大大小小的陳亢會議。我把這些影像重整,剪輯成23分鐘的影像。除了透過現場參與者與聲援者的言論發表,傳達理念與價值觀,甚至是對於體制的控訴。我發現我想處理的是關於這片土地的認同。影像元素雖然交雜多元,但其實都在訴說台灣島嶼。我期盼透過影像,摘要勾勒台灣當代社會現況與困境。我認為每個人帶著訊息來到世界上,我在過程接受到了一些訊息,並且想持續傳頌下去。除了自我辯證與回顧,也成為了影片的製作動機與初衷之一。 這部影片關於認同。影片中,我透過影像寫下日記,寫下這片島嶼所見。我們共同生活在這片四面環海土地上,所有生命與命運緊緊相依。

2017 Kuo Ying Hsiu Solo Exhibition, Jatiwangi art Factory, Indonesia 印尼實驗影像個展《影像身體論 x 論身體影像》
Kuo Ying Hsiu(Taiwanese) has her eyes on the Fields, Memory and Identity in recent years, she’s been focusing on social issues and the relationship between field and self-identity. She is interested in social interaction and symbolic interaction, both interpersonal and between people and field. Through observations and social experiments during the last few years, she created different works in the various field.
The artist-in-residency exhibition “The Theory of Cinematic Body“ Kuo Ying Hsiu Solo Exhibition, displaying the video art works from early times till the current residency in Indonesia, Jatiwangi art Factory. Notion of curation and creativity will be set aside with the works exhibited in the kitchen, bedroom and reception room where the artist living in. This is a project as an experiment exhibiting and creating parallelly in the original space. “The Theory of Cinematic Body“ exhibitions from the work which was picturing the image when physical body present in the place, to be the physical image. It’s about the re-imagination and discussion about the relationship between the body and the field. Those three exhibition space is the first in the kitchen, second one is in the room, named “Every Woman Need a Room to Writing”, and the third is in the reception room.
郭盈秀(台灣籍)過去關注場域與記憶、認同。認為個體之於環境,同時受社會脈絡與政治環境下不同程度的影響,作者近年透過社會實驗與影像身體,企圖透過身體在場的影像化,在不同場域進行思辨與對話論證。「影像身體」即是透過身體閱讀場域,與影像化身體與場域的關係與狀態的「身體影像」。
此次駐村地展覽「影像身體論 x 論身體影像」實驗影像個展,在駐地的廚房、房間與會客室進行展覽過去影像作品,策展與創作概念在原有空間與物件配置,進行展覽放置駐村期間與過去的影像作品。這是一個同時展覽,也是創作的計畫。此展覽概念企圖思考以藝術家關係與意義的實體空間內部進行展覽創作,放映不同身體影像在不同空間下的不同可能(及狀態),進行論述關於各個政治、社會、環境與個體等的影像身體,與探討身體(在不同場域)影像中的可能性。
影像與空間的關聯性。首先在詢問為何空間需要影像的之前,討論生活空間出現影像的這件事情。在第零空間「廚房」所展示的影像,關於藝術家在不同空間的行動,以身體作為介質探討空間的可能性。除了在認同、不同空間的政治社會議題,還有城市生活空間的情感異化,空間中播放的《我們在此相遇》影像,由藝術家郭盈秀與楊柳在廣州與印尼不同地點相互攝影,企圖討論影像重新建構空間的可能性。並以呼應展名「影像身體」,藝術家作為拍攝的主體,攝製進入空間後的客體化與回應空間的狀態;與身體的在場域影像性。「我們在此相遇」,包含身體與空間,身體與身體,與(攝製)空間與(播放)空間的再度相遇與對話。
第一個空間,主題「每個女人都需要書寫的空間」,此空間特別播放藝術家與舞蹈家楊柳所屬的VAGA藝術團體近一年的「以身體閱讀場域」創作計劃影像,在多數以男性作為空間主導,女性的閱讀與書寫空間議題一直擺放在最後考量或甚至被忽略。影像作品包含在香港、越南、希臘、印尼等不同地點的駐地創作。兩位女性藝術家進入空間,以身體作為介質,閱讀與書寫空間的狀態,透過身體的即興,與場域進行不同程度的對話。作品中在越南拍攝的《你是否成為你想成為的樣子》身體影像,正是回應此空間命題與詢問所有女性的最適疑問句。
第二空間,主題「會客室」。透過展示在台灣、香港與印尼的社會觀察,進行影像播放。「會客室」展示了藝術家作品《岸 Island》,此為藝術家以影像作為日記,拍攝台灣不同的社會議題與個體。與在不同地方旅居的城市觀察影像,《遛鳥的人》中主角提著鳥籠自由地在香港油麻地穿越,卻像是困在在此高樓林立的地區,在籠中不斷反覆來回行走的異象。「身體影像」出現在「會客室」中,像是重新論述藝術家於場域中的觀察敏銳度並以此回應。我們究竟如何看待與面對自己的身體與場域間的關係,影像成為紀錄的工具,也企圖在空間中重新書寫新的可能性。

VAGA Body & Multimedia Experimental Group, these years in different artist residence place, creation of physical experience to field reflection. The group is dedicated to exploring the dialogue between the field and the individual. The perception and understanding of each field has its own special timeliness and events of the incident. The work is based on VAGA art project "Embodying Places", from the three sub-theme to sort out the field reading process, [in], [each other], [you, me,her, he, and it]. The work will be carried out in the performance of the event, to create a different sense of time. And present in the moment to everyone's body and field, body and body, body and their own meticulous relationship and the possibility of dialogue.
